The Iceland Cod Museum

A DESIGN COMPETITION FOR THE ICELAND COD MUSEUM IN GRINDAVÍK

About: Yrki architects won the 1st prize in an invited competition for the Iceland Cod Museum in Grindavík. The museum hosts a permanent exhibition designed by Björn G. Björnsson on the history of cod fishery in Iceland. The aim of the museum is to document and preserve the heritage of this important industry troughout history, the town of Grindavík being the capital of cod fishery in Iceland. The characteristics of the museum – embedded in the surroundings of the town´s port – are its plainness and clarity. The first annex of the museum was opened in 2002.
