ABOUT
In 1997 Yrki Architects won the 1st prize in an invited competition for Nesstofa, a museum of medical heritage.
In 2022 it was decided that the building would host the Icelandic Museum of Natural History.
The museum will be a centre of mediation in natural science with an emphasis on education and exhibitions. There are three exhibition spaces and one of them will exhibit the skeleton of a sperm whale and Iceland’s last great auk. The museum welcomes school children in a classroom for natural science and for field trips in the nearby nature consercation area on the westernmost tip of Seltjarnarnes peninsula.
The museum also hosts a lecture hall, a laboratory in natural sciences, offices and a coffeeshop with a view.
